NetEnt celebrates 10 years of the Starburst slot machine
NetEnt, a promising name in the iGaming sector at the time, introduced the Starburst video slot ten years ago. The game went on to become one of the most popular titles, attracting players throughout time and offering a variety of fantastic aesthetic and design choices such as wild symbols, basic low and high-paying jewels and numbers, and a cool arcade style.
On the occasion of the game's tenth anniversary, NetEnt took the chance to reflect on some of the company's long-term success. Starburst has witnessed up to 18 billion spins in the previous 2.5 years alone, according to the business, with winning combos reaching "astronomical heights."
While Starburst remained a solitary game for many years, NetEnt ultimately decided to offer the Starburst XXXtreme experience in July, increasing gameplay variation and strengthening the basic concept. The fact that this version was not created sooner is primarily due to the fact that Starburst was a successful product that did not lose any of its momentum over time.
NetEnt only wanted to develop this experience when it was certain that any update to the original game would be accompanied by the introduction of a worthwhile replacement, which it did. Starburst XXXtreme introduced the XXXtreme Spins feature, which allows players to purchase guaranteed wild symbols while they play.
Of course, the new game has received some small visual enhancements, but it retains the look and feel of the old arcade-inspired title as well. Evolution CPO Todd Haushalter commented on this momentous occasion for the company, saying that commemorating Starburst's 10th anniversary was wonderful.
"A decade-long run for a single slot machine is a tremendous feat, and it's been a player favorite since its inception," he added. Haushalter believes that Starburst is the complete package, including all of the worthwhile game experiences that gamers may desire and ask for.
He also expressed optimism that NetEnt's Starburst will remain a fixture in the industry for the next decade. Evolution purchased NetEnt in 2020, marking one of the industry's largest merger and acquisition transactions. The askance price was established at $2.1 billion, which Evolution gladly met at the time.
